If you’ve ever been on a budget in Boston, like ever, you probably have come to the unfortunate understanding that brunch is not cheap. Social gatherings aren’t cheap, good food isn’t cheap, and brunch is the wonderful combination of both that is also… not cheap. Luckily, Forkout has found a place that serves up delicious brunch that is, in fact, a place worthy of being called a #CheapEats.
Ladies and gentlemen, Thorton’s Restaurant and Grille.
You’ve probably passed by if you’ve ever been to the Prudential/Hynes Convention Center area, as it sits across the street from Star Market and Cheesecake Factory. But if you’ve ever passed by anytime on the weekend, you most likely were obscured from the restaurant entrance by a steady line. Thorton’s has become a staple to many Bostonians who live in the area, and for good reason too: their brunch specials are delicious, well-portioned, and mostly under $10.
Yep, you heard right! Thorton has a sprawling menu with over 40 possible combinations of breakfast items alone, and the only item that costs over ten dollars is their Alex’s Crazy Two’s, which is “2 eggs any style, 2 sausages, 2 strips of bacon, 2 pancakes, 2 toasts, and 2 spoons of home fries,” basically enough to feed two, for just $10.75! That’s half the price of appetizers in most restaurants in the area.
So budget brunch fans, rejoice! There is a fun and affordable place for you, too.
What we suggest: Any of their Eggs Benedict combinations, but especially Italian “Poached eggs on grilled focaccia bread with prosciutto and a pesto sauce served with home fries and a melon ($8.64), and their Huevos Rancheros “Three fried eggs on tortilla smothered with our own homemade Texas beef chili, cheese, jalapenos and sour cream served with home fries”($8.64)
