Interview 2: Vikrant Sanghvi
Vikrant Sanghvi was a summer intern who has sadly left us for a great job at Verizon. Here’s our exit interview.
What were doing before this internship? How’d you hear about ForkOut?
I was busy interviewing with the other software companies when I heard about ForkOut at a university organized career fair. I instantly liked the idea of creating an app for consumers in the dining space, as there’s nothing out there like it. Also, I identified with the issues ForkOut is solving, particularly waiting for late friends.
What’d you work on while at ForkOut?
I was brought in to develop a recommendation layer for the backend services which would learn user behaviour and recommend the best restaurants, tailored for each user.
What was the most fun to work on?
The fun part was discussing every day about the different strategies and how implement them. Our validation process helped ensure quality code before finalization.
What’d you learn?
I got hands-on experience of working in Elixir: functional programming and other tools in the back-end like Ecto. Also, I got to see the life at a startup and how things are done with minimal resources for maximum impact.
What’s next for you?
I will be joining Verizon Wireless as an Erlang Developer and will continue to learn more about Erlang and other technologies.
All the best, Vikrant! We were lucky to have you.
